Aquamarine

Aquamarine is the blue variety of the beryl crystal, the same family as emerald. Its pale shades range from blue to green. Our favourite shade is the greener tint, a washed out blue tinged with green, like the see, hence the name. The clarity, and the price, varies in extreme from sparkling clear to totally opaque. Both are beautiful and we use all of it.

Fun fact: The ancient Romans believed that aquamarine would protect against any dangers while travelling at sea, and that it provided energy and cured laziness.

Colours: pale blue, pale blueish green.

Mohs scale: 7.5 - 8

Crystal Formation: Hexangonal

Country of origin: Brazil, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, USA, Colombia, Zambia, Malawi and Kenya.
